  • The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre announced its Summer at the Centre Performance Series with shows on June 21, July 19, and Aug. 23 featuring acts like The Embers: Featuring Craig Woolard, Chairmen of the Board, and Murder Mystery Dinners. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wake County educators staged a walk-in protest at Enloe Magnet High School yesterday to urge school leaders to adopt a no-cuts budget after the county proposal provided $35 million for schools—$5 million less than the superintendent recommended. They warned that the lower funds would force staff cuts, reduced benefits, and delayed maintenance as commissioners prepare to finalize the district budget soon.  ABC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Raleigh Water will close the 500 block of South Main Street from Elm Avenue to Vernon Avenue from 6:30 p.m. May 8 until about 5 a.m. May 9 to allow crews to repair a sewer line, and detour signs will guide both southbound and northbound traffic + motorists should plan their routes to avoid delays.  City of Wake Forest
  • Today at the House Transportation Committee meeting, lawmakers discussed House Bill 584, which would shorten the supervised driving period for teens to six months until the end of the year—experts warn that cutting training time may lead to higher insurance rates and more accidents.  The Wake Weekly

  • The Carolina Hurricanes opened their second-round NHL playoff series by beating the Washington Capitals 2-1 in overtime on May 6 — Jaccob Slavin scored the winning goal at 3:06. The teams will meet again on May 8 in Washington.  ABC 11
