EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wake County Public Schools approved a revised cell phone policy Tuesday evening that requires students to silence and store phones during class times. The new rule meets a state law — it will take effect in July.  ABC 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife officials warn residents not to feed or try to domesticate wild deer as deer attacks have risen during the rut, noting keeping them as pets is illegal — they urge calling the Wildlife Helpline if deer act unusually.  ABC 11

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A superior court ruled Wednesday, Dec. 3 that Wake Stone ended mining near Umstead State Park by 2031 (the decision also requires the quarry land to be donated back to the state for park use) after years of advocacy by the Umstead Coalition.  ABC 11
