CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The PRCR Department will host its second annual Diwali Festival at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road on Nov. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. + the free event will offer music, dance performances, hands-on arts and crafts, a henna tattoo artist and food trucks while visitors are asked to bring chairs or blankets and avoid alcoholic beverages, unleashed pets and grills. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Town of Wake Forest launched a food waste drop-off program today that lets residents use the CompostHere app to deposit food scraps at two drop-off points with a third location set to open on Nov. 10 (located near EV chargers at Depot Parking Lot at 124 S. White St. and by the ATM behind Town Hall at 301 Brooks St.). Diverting food waste from landfills will help reduce methane and carbon dioxide emissions. City of Wake Forest

- ➤ Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones announced today the formation of a Mayor’s Roundtable — comprised of Commissioner Faith Cross, Ann Welton, Maria Bolanz, Buddy Glenn, Diana Turner, and Joe Grimm — to link the town with the Center for Active Aging; the group will first review survey responses from over 400 center members submitted through October 31. - ➤ Wake County leaders are proposing a plan to limit EMS calls with lights and sirens to 20 out of every 100 calls—an effort sparked by 21 accidents since January that injured none but totaled two ambulances and may extend response times to as long as 60 minutes for less serious emergencies. Community meetings with partners will help shape the policy, which is expected to be fully implemented by March. ABC 11

- ➤ WakeMed is offering free 3D mammograms to uninsured women over 40 who have not had a screening in the past year as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The mobile mammography bus is at WakeMed’s Raleigh Medical Park on Sunnybrook Road and will operate until November 6—providing set hours for each day. ABC 11
