GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Apex's Environmental Advisory Board approved a plan to rezone a 190-acre parcel for a new data center that may create noise and power grid issues for the Jordan Pointe neighborhood. Neighbors said they will share their worries with town leaders at the council meeting on October 28—calling for a more responsible rollout of the project. ABC 11
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Wake County is asking for community donations to help its Warmth for Wake program buy heaters and firewood for families in need — the program has seen growing demand and distributed over 300 heaters last winter. ABC 11
- ➤ The Lucy Daniels Center in Cary will expand with $900,000 in federal funding to nearly triple its size and add services like speech and psychological therapy, onsite testing and professional training—construction will take about nine months with the new wing opening in fall. ABC 11
- ➤ A 2022 survey shows nearly half of Triangle nurses saw violence at work and more than half were victimized while facing stress and burnout. Hospitals like UNC Health Rex and Duke Health are boosting safety measures—such as training staff and installing metal detectors—to better protect their employees. ABC 11
