ECONOMY NEWS

  • New tariffs on imported lumber and wood products went into effect Tuesday and are sparking concerns about future effects on home construction in the Triangle. Home Builders Association executive Paul Kane said the measures affect imported materials at the beginning of the supply chain — home buyers should not worry yet as the impact may take months to show.  ABC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new law took effect on Oct. 1 to expand higher education benefits for military members and families by offering deferred admission at UNC System schools and in-state tuition for veterans who earned a Purple Heart, graduated high school after January 1, or served at least 90 days at a military installation.
