COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is accepting new or gently used coats and jackets through Saturday, Oct. 25 at its designated PRCR facilities during normal hours. Donated coats will be given to children and teens on Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. + Residents should drop off donations at the listed centers.  City of Wake Forest

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Education leaders and farmers are urging legislators to approve $2.5 million to keep the Farm to School program running after federal funds ended in March — a move they say will support local farms and school meals. Tommy Wheeler of Tidewater Grain Company warned that the funding cut could harm the program and the local agriculture community.  ABC 11

  • Cheryl Bach of Holly Springs won a $1M lottery scratch-off ticket and will finally take the honeymoon she postponed for 31 years; she claimed her prize in Raleigh and chose a $600,000 lump sum payout that netted $430,514 after tax withholdings — she plans to use part of her winnings to pay bills.  ABC 11
