- ➤ Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC braced for steep federal cuts that reduced funding for fresh produce programs and SNAP, leaving one in seven people facing food insecurity. The food bank announced a partnership with PORCH communities Tuesday — aiming to deliver non-perishable donations to areas where they are most needed. ABC 11
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is partnering with Play4Life Comics and Used Books to host a free Comic Book - Toy Expo on November 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Flaherty Park Community Center, where vendors will sell vintage comics, Pokémon cards, and rare action figures. - ➤ The Wake Forest Police Department will host Coffee with a Cop on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Dunkin Donuts on Capital Blvd—rescheduled from Oct. 6—to offer community members a chance to talk with officers in a relaxed setting. City of Wake Forest
- ➤ Today, Commissioners Chair Susan Evans said Wake County is vibrant and growing despite challenges with affordable housing and transit congestion brought on by its 1.2 million residents—she added that plans for new bus rapid transit routes and community support for foster care will help address these issues. - ➤ Today new state laws take effect in North Carolina that require sheriffs to hold people with ICE detainers 48 hours longer and ease criminal justice measures for domestic violence victims—changes that also support military, elder care, foster care, community pharmacies, mortgage lending, and transportation. Additional laws will require background checks for city and county workers and allow counties to form teams to help older adults and people with disabilities. ABC 11

- ➤ Data from the CDC shows that common cold cases are rising and doctors advise covering mouths, washing hands, and staying home if symptoms occur — pharmacists and medical experts suggest testing for COVID-19 or RSV and getting a flu shot before Halloween. ABC 11
