BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Breeze Airways announced plans to expand at RDU by making the Triangle a new crew base—one of only 12 in the country and set to hire up to 200 pilots and flight attendants in the coming months. The FAA also named the airline a U.S. Flag Carrier, which will let it fly international routes to Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. ABC 11

- ➤ Three Wake Forest projects won awards at Capital Area Preservation’s 30th Annual Anthemion Awards on Monday, Sept. 23—honoring work that keeps our historic sites safe in Wake County. The winners include projects such as the residential upgrade at Oak Forest on Seawell Drive and the commercial fix-up on South White Street. City of Wake Forest
- ➤ The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, at 405 S. Brooks St., will host Some Enchanted Evening featuring Jane Monheit on Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.—tickets are available online, in person, or by phone. - ➤ State legislators have not reached a new budget agreement, leaving Wake County teachers without promised pay raises and with salaries well below the national average. School district leaders warn that the delay forces educators to buy classroom supplies from their own pockets and will continue to impact programs until negotiations resume next month. ABC 11
- ➤ Saint Augustine's University will receive $5 million in shares from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott's $70 million gift to UNCF. The university will join UNCF to raise an additional $5 million to create a $10 million endowment—aiming to expand opportunities for its students and strengthen its academic programs. ABC 11
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Josh Stein said on Thursday that state lawmakers have failed to reach a new Medicaid budget and warned that cuts starting Oct. 1 will affect about 3 million enrollees. He ordered DHHS to identify reversible cuts so that health care can improve once extra funds are provided — his remarks highlighted the growing political impasse. ABC 11

- ➤ A mother of six said that Medicaid cuts starting Oct. 1 will hurt her family’s care while Gov. Josh Stein urged lawmakers to agree on a new Medicaid budget soon—if no deal is reached, providers may stop offering services and delay behavioral health investments. ABC 11
