COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wake Forest Community Council is asking for nominations for local awards that honor volunteer work—forms must be submitted by noon on Oct. 15 and winners will be celebrated at the Community Christmas Dinner on Dec. 1 at The Forks Cafeteria.  City of Wake Forest
  • On Saturday morning the community held the second annual Wake County Honor Run to honor Deputy Ned Byrd and all fallen officers following the recent guilty plea of two brothers for his murder. Back the Blue NC organized the run and displayed officer names and images along the route — a tribute to their service.  ABC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • RTI International laid off 120 employees as part of its strategic reorganization — about 75 in NC — and over 400 workers have been affected this year. The company appointed three senior leaders to new roles that will be effective October 1 to guide its future growth.  ABC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Carolina voters must bring a photo ID when voting in person and if they do not have one they will cast a provisional ballot by filling out a Photo ID Exception Form or by returning with a valid ID by noon on Oct. 10—early voters may also register or update their address if they show proof like a driver's license or utility bill. Acceptable IDs include state-issued IDs, driver's licenses, U.S. passports, and other government-issued photo IDs.  ABC 11
