COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wake Forest Police Department will accept monetary donations for its 19th Annual Turkey Drive through November 22 — residents can drop off cash, checks or frozen turkeys at the WFPD Substation at 225 S. Taylor St from 9 a.m. until noon. Officers will use the funds to buy extra turkeys and distribute them on November 24 from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry at 149 E. Holding Ave.  City of Wake Forest
  • NC State held a free event on Friday at Centennial Campus with music by the Wolfpack Sound Polka Band and local food trucks. Today and Sunday, free festivals across the Triangle—including the International Festival at the State Fairgrounds, Centerfest in Durham with 40,000 visitors and La Fiesta del Pueblo in downtown Raleigh expecting 20,000—will celebrate local food, music and cultural traditions.  ABC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts at 405 S. Brooks St. is asking local residents to share what shows and programs they prefer by filling out a brief survey online through Engage Wake Forest until October. The survey will help plan future performances—ensuring the centre meets community needs.  City of Wake Forest

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • East Juniper Avenue from Meadowgrass Lane to Traditions Grande Boulevard has reopened after the Dunn Creek Culvert Replacement Project fixed old pipe culverts, paved a multi-use path, and improved the road—work funded by ARPA to enhance safety since mid-February.  City of Wake Forest
  • The Town of Wake Forest and Wake Forest Power join over 2,000 utilities in celebrating Public Power Week from October 5th to 11th with free events including a trivia contest to win free electricity and seniors bingo on October 7 from 10-11:30 a.m. plus Town staff will serve popcorn and provide promotional items at Town Hall each day to thank customers.  City of Wake Forest

  • Green Level High School held its second annual mental health awareness homecoming game last night—students, teachers, and guests wore black NAMI t-shirts to support mental health resources in schools.  ABC 11
