- ➤ Last Friday night, the Wake Forest community honored educator Ericka Lucas, wife of coach Reggie Lucas, during a football game after she died from a shooting in August. Players wore blue ribbons on their helmets and coaches wore them on their shirts, and a moment of silence was held with donations collected to support her family. ABC 11
- ➤ Wake Forest will dedicate a historic marker at Olive Branch Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct.4 at 1 p.m. where Mayor Vivian Jones, Rev. Larry Wilder and historic staff will speak while visitors are urged to use on-street parking along the west side of North Taylor Street and the north side of Walnut Street—parking is limited—. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mike Dempsey, a 9/11 survivor injured while escaping the South Tower, now living in Raleigh, is dedicated to teaching youth about that tragic day and to serving his community. - ➤ North Carolina leaders expanded access to the COVID-19 vaccine after the FDA limited booster eligibility—Governor Josh Stein said standing orders let pharmacies give shots to high-risk adults and senior citizens without a prescription. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ N.C. State rallied from a 14-0 deficit to beat Wake Forest 34-24 on Thursday night—CJ Bailey connected with Keenan Jackson for a 12-yard touchdown that turned the game. Wake Forest’s offense stalled with only 44 second-half yards, and they will host Georgia Tech on Sept.27 while N.C. State prepares to face Duke on Sept.20. ABC 11
