ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency personnel are on scene after a road resurfacing crew ruptured a gas line on the 700 block of North White Street near the intersection with East Perry Avenue — traffic is blocked and Enbridge Gas crews are working to seal the leak with no timetable for reopening.  City of Wake Forest

CRIME NEWS

  • Ericka Lucas, a former Rolesville High principal and wife of Wake Forest High football coach Reggie Lucas, died yesterday after being injured in a shooting in the 600 block of East Nelson Avenue—police said she was not the intended target and arrested 18-year-old Dexter Lamont Mills.  ABC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wake County school officials met Tuesday to review school safety and effective security tools — they discussed systems like weapons detection and planned upgrades such as improved lockdown procedures and better communication with law enforcement, EMS and community support for large events. They said these changes will help keep students safe in the future.  ABC 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission warned locals on Tuesday, September 9 that black bears were eating extra food to prepare for winter and might roam far to find acorns, nuts, and crops. Biologist Jenna Malzahn said the bears can gain up to 100% of their summer weight during hyperphagia—this behavior may lead to more bear encounters.  ABC 11
