- ➤ Wake Forest residents supported Ericka Ruffin Lucas—former principal and coach's wife—after she was hit by gunfire on Aug. 29 near East Nelson Avenue; police said a teen is suspected in the shooting and her family said she remains in the hospital. ABC 11
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ North Wake Theatre will present two performances of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre—located at 405 S. Brooks St.—with showtimes at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Advance tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for ages 16 and younger, available in person at the Renaissance Centre Box Office or by phone at 919-435-9458. - ➤ The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre invites veteran, reserve and active-duty military artists to submit up to three art works for its upcoming Veteran Art Show. The show will run in the Arts Annex from Oct. 21 through Nov. 26 and a free reception will be held on Oct. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. with submissions due by Oct. 3. City of Wake Forest

- ➤ The Town of Wake Forest and local veterans’ organizations are holding the 64th Wake Forest Memorial Flag-Raising Ceremony on Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. in Town Hall’s Centennial Plaza to honor Patrick George Breen of the US Marines; the service includes flag raising by the Wake Forest Fire Department Honor Guard, patriotic songs, special remarks, memorial wreath laying and will display the American flag through September—set to be presented to the Breen family on Oct. 6.
