CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Law enforcement experts and juvenile justice officials in Wake County said teen crimes, including a shooting on Moonglow Drive and car break-ins using key fob devices, are rising and they are using teen court and counseling to help troubled youth—youth advocates ask community members to report at-risk behavior early. ABC 11
- ➤ State Highway Patrol and partners conducted Operation Highway Guardian along 420 miles of I-40 yesterday to fight human trafficking and improve safety for drivers as Labor Day travel neared. ABC 11
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wake County and Durham school districts reported that teacher turnover dropped from 11.5% in the 2022 to 2023 school year to 9.8% in the 2023 to 2024 school year as Durham hired over 400 first year and alternative pathway teachers and kept more than 2,000 substitutes (with nearly 100 vacancies in special education) to support students. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ College football returned last night when NC State hosted ECU at Carter-Finley Stadium — a historic opener with a familiar rival — and Duke played Elon at home in Durham at 7:30 p.m. ABC 11
- ➤ NC State avenged its Military Bowl loss by beating ECU 24-17 in a tough season opener on Thursday night + ECU’s key drive ended with a turnover on downs in the final seconds. ABC 11
