CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a shooting on the 3300 block of Moonglow Drive near Raleigh—he faces charges for assault with a deadly weapon and firearm offenses while authorities continue to investigate.  ABC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four new schools opened in Wake County this week as the district worked to ease overcrowding, but higher operating costs have strained school budgets. School Board Chair Chris Heagarty said the new schools, including Felton Grove High School in Apex as the largest, show the challenges of rapid student growth.  ABC 11
  • A shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school yesterday left two children dead and more than a dozen injured—prompting urgent reviews of school safety in the Triangle—and local experts urged Wake County and Durham schools to upgrade safety drills and threat programs.  ABC 11
