- ➤ The Human Relations Council is asking for youth and adult nominations for the 16th Annual Good Neighbor Award until 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31—nominees must be Wake Forest residents who improved their neighborhoods between Sept. 1 and Aug. 31. - ➤ A Zebulon man named Leon Clark was frustrated when repairs on his stove left him with error codes and prevented him from cooking until ABC11 Troubleshooter Diane Wilson stepped in; Lowe’s said it will deliver a new stove, power cable, three-year protective plan, and a $100 store credit in 24-48 hours—resolving the issue quickly. - ➤ On Monday evening, a man led deputies on a chase and crashed into the Wake Forest Reservoir—he was taken to a hospital for evaluation and faces pending charges. ABC 11

- ➤ Wake Forest will host two free concerts at E. Carroll Joyner Park on Sept. 7 and Sept. 14, with The Deloreans performing on Sept. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and The Phoebes on Sept. 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—a bonus Wake Forest Unplugged event on Sept. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. will offer games and activities for families. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wake County families started the new 2025–2026 school year with changes to school meals, online services, and cell phone rules. Meal prices rose by 25 cents, schools switched from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus after a data breach, and phone use is now limited based on grade level—high school students can use their devices only at set times. - ➤ Today, state lawmakers and Food Bank officials will update on how SNAP cuts might worsen food insecurity for Wake County public school students after a Monday presentation to Commissioners—officials warn that planned cuts starting in 2026 could leave many children without free school meals. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wake Forest Power crews are working to fix a power outage that affects over 40 customers along Unicon Drive, Connector Drive, and Superior Drive. The cause is not known and there is no timeline for restoration as officials will provide updates as they become available. City of Wake Forest
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will begin accepting Youth Basketball League registrations on Sept. 1 for boys ages 5-17 and girls ages 5-13 with residents registering from Sept. 1-7, non-residents from Sept. 8-21, and a late registration period from Sept. 22-30 with a $15 fee if spots remain available—registration fees are $60 for town residents and $100 for non-residents, new participants must provide a birth certificate and team practices will start mid to late October with games running from December to February.
