CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, August 18, a car driven by Andrew Wofford, 45, struck a Wake County Sheriff’s Office transport van at the intersection of Hammond Road and Rush Street just before 1 p.m., and officials said one deputy, one car passenger and several inmates were treated for minor injuries—Wofford was charged with careless and reckless driving, driving left of center and failure to reduce speed. - ➤ Wake Forest is accepting applications for Town advisory boards until Sept. 30 so residents and high school students may apply to help shape local government & candidates will be interviewed in October with appointments announced on Nov. 18 and new terms starting in January 2026. - ➤ Medical experts urge residents to get flu and COVID-19 shots early as more people show up sick before the usual flu season begins—pharmacists note that school is in session and crowded settings heighten risks. ABC 11
- ➤ The Town of Wake Forest and local partners will host the Third Annual Mental Wellness Fair on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre (405 S. Brooks St.) to offer resources for mental health including a panel discussion on the pressures faced by athletes and families and free food, blood pressure screenings, and other services.
