COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, which serves over 30 counties, says cuts to SNAP and other federal programs will worsen food insecurity as rising prices add pressure. President and CEO Amy Beros warned that when the cuts take effect next year, donations and state funding may not fill the gap — the impact could be dire for many children, disabled, and elderly people.  ABC 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wake County Public Schools is preparing for the new school year in late August while emphasizing student safety and safe storage as state law enforcement report that more youths have access to unsecured firearms—local efforts include the RAVE mobile app and educational campaigns from retailers.  ABC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Town of Wake Forest will close the northbound section of North Main Street/US 1A from East Walnut Avenue to East Juniper Avenue Friday, Aug. 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.—the work is for tree removal.  City of Wake Forest
