CRIME NEWS

  • NC State student Andrew Thomas Graney, 24, accused of shooting multiple vehicles on I-40 last fall and damaging homes while injuring a woman, has been deemed incapable of proceeding with trial and been committed to Central Regional Hospital—he faces more than a dozen charges following a mental health evaluation.  ABC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Brickhouse Band will headline the free Friday Night on White concert on August 8 from 6-9 p.m. along South White Street in downtown Wake Forest (local vendors will offer food and drink options).  City of Wake Forest

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Johnston County woman who had already won $250,000 in June won a $2 million top prize from a scratch-off ticket bought at Hill Top on North Main Street in Fuquay-Varina—she collected her winnings Monday and took home $861,006 after tax withholdings.  ABC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PBS North Carolina announced it would offer voluntary separation offers to most permanent employees and imposed a hiring freeze after losing $4.8 million in annual funding from federal cuts—CEO David Crabtree said the move was dictated by Congress and that the organization will also reduce non-personnel expenses.  ABC 11
