GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m., the Town of Wake Forest and local veterans’ organizations will host the 63rd Memorial Flag-Raising Ceremony at Town Hall’s Centennial Plaza to honor Terry Shackelton, a former Marine. Friends and family will participate as officials raise both the American and Marine Corps flags, and photos and mementos of Shackelton are on display through August. City of Wake Forest
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The NCDHHS reported that more than 3,300 emergency room visits for heat illnesses were recorded from May 1 to July 12—almost double the usual average—prompting officials to advise residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor time during peak heat, and seek air conditioning when possible. Officials note that outdoor workers, children, older adults, and those with health issues should take extra precautions under the hot conditions. ABC 11
