COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Camp Ignite in Cary on July 17 brought 37 young women from seven counties to learn firefighting skills — the camp, now in its second year with an 85% rise in participation, aims to increase female recruitment in local fire departments.  ABC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wake Forest PRCR Department is accepting applications from food trucks, vendors, and nonprofits for the second annual Diwali Festival set for Saturday, November 1 - from noon to 3 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park. The festival celebrates India’s Festival of Lights and will feature offerings that reflect Indian culture.  City of Wake Forest

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The NC Board of Elections launched the Registration Repair Project to fix missing voter data for about 103,000 registered voters—those on the list will receive a letter in August with simple instructions for providing a driver’s license or social security number. County boards of elections are checking records to help update registrations for upcoming votes.  ABC 11
  • Governor Josh Stein declared a state of emergency on July 17 for 13 counties, including Wake County, to unlock state and federal recovery aid for residents affected by Tropical Storm Chantal. The storm hit central NC on July 7 and caused high water levels on local rivers—leading to road closures across the area.  ABC 11
