- ➤ The waterwheel at historic Yates Mill County Park is being replaced after 20 years of use at an estimated cost of about a half million—work to remove the 12-foot wheel began on July 10th. County officials said a new wheel will be installed this fall while the mill yard remains closed. ABC 11
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Triangle small-business owners are preparing for added costs if a 50% tariff on copper takes effect Aug 1, which would raise prices on everyday items like air-conditioning units, electronics and appliances — some contractors already report that European suppliers have stopped shipping copper, pushing them to seek alternative materials. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers in North Carolina can now wait two more years to renew their Class C driver’s license after its expiration date—a measure signed by Governor Josh Stein to reduce DMV appointment backlogs that does not apply to drivers with suspended, canceled or revoked licenses. The change takes effect immediately and runs until the end of 2027, and the DMV will offer walk-in services on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at 20 locations through August 23. ABC 11
- ➤ Wake Forest will accept Community Special Event Applications for 2026 from Tuesday, July 15 through Tuesday, Sept. 30. Town staff will review all applications based on set Evaluation Criteria, and those submitted on or after October 1 for the following year will be processed on a first come, first served basis — ensuring equal access to Town resources.
