  • Auto experts warned that prolonged heat is chipping car paint and stressing engines — Ricky Hernandez of Slick Rick’s Auto Works advised waxing vehicles every six months to help protect them. Mechanics also urged drivers to check coolant, oil, and ac units — many have come in for repairs since the extreme heat began.  ABC 11

FINANCE NEWS

  • Taxpayers in Wake Forest have faced refunds delays because NCDOR’s print vendor went out of business, affecting roughly 300,000 people statewide. Communication problems and unanswered calls have left some waiting for clarity + the refund status portal was restored on June 26.  ABC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wake County landlords have been waiting for months for rent payments from the local housing authority—some reporting unpaid amounts over $6,800 and $9,600 while tenants risk eviction. The housing authority blamed paperwork issues and staff turnover and said it will release payments by July 1.  ABC 11
  • Beginning today, Park Construction of NC will close South Allen Road from Quail Drive to East Wait Avenue on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through July to replace the water main safely — motorists are advised to use the detour and consider alternate routes.  City of Wake Forest
