Kacy Walker said his son, Gabriel Walker, fired at police on Monday morning during a shootout—he struggled with mental health issues that went untreated and now faces serious charges while his father says the system failed him.

Wake Forest’s Town is developing a conceptual site plan for a new park anchored by the historic Ailey Young House to honor local African American heritage.

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department is accepting online applications for Girls NFL Flag Football for middle and high school girls — registration fees are $60 for local players and $100 for out-of-town participants, with practices starting in August and games held until mid-October. Applicants must submit a birth certificate to verify eligibility by August 31.
