- ➤ After Tyrone Mason died in a crash on Capital Boulevard in October, his mother said she will sue the Raleigh Police Department for a cover-up after video evidence showed a highway patrol trooper was told by his supervisor not to mention an attempted stop, contradicting claims that Mason was not pursued. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced Monday that North Carolina auto insurance rates will rise by 5% in the fall after a settlement between state regulators and insurers avoided the 22.6% increase initially requested by the NC Rate Bureau. New and renewed policies will have these rates starting Oct. 1, and motorcycle liability rates will drop by 16.3%. ABC 11

- ➤ NC State professor Christopher Hayes said that Asian needle ants now appear widely in North Carolina and are often found in mulch. He warned that while their sting is not as aggressive as fire ants—risking multiple stings if pressed—the venom can cause a burning pain that is dangerous for those with allergies. ABC 11
