COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ChurchNet Foundation is hosting a celebration on June 12 from 6-9 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St — where Mayor Vivian Jones and ChurchNet President Anne Packett will highlight the foundation’s twenty years of service — and guests will enjoy music and hors d’oeuvres.  City of Wake Forest
  • Wake Forest will host its two-day Independence Day Celebration on July 3 and 4 with fireworks, food trucks, live music, and family activities at local venues. The event will begin on July 3 at Heritage High School with a firework display—followed by a Children’s Parade and community festivities on July 4.  City of Wake Forest
  • Wake Forest Center for Active Aging will host a free Flag Day Ceremony at 235 E. Holding Ave on Saturday, June 14 at 9:30 a.m.—the event will feature a ceremonial flag-raising by the Wake Forest Fire Department Honor Guard, a National Anthem performance by Steven Pfanenstiel, a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, a bagpipe performance, and remarks by WFCAA Director Jennie Griggs on the flag's history.  City of Wake Forest

CRIME NEWS

  • A Wake County special programs teaching assistant at Lead Mine Elementary School was suspended and arrested for allegedly assaulting another woman by striking her face, causing cuts and bruises + threatening her with a knife, and she is set to appear in court on July 10.  ABC 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bounce! Party Band will headline the free FNOW outdoor concert from 6-9 p.m on June 13 along South White Street in downtown Wake Forest. Food trucks + local breweries will offer food and licensed beer during the event.  City of Wake Forest
  • Juneteenth events across central NC include historical tours, family festivals and lectures that honor the end of slavery, and a two-day celebration in Wake Forest is planned for June 20 to June 21. Many local events offer +free entry and live performances+ for all ages.  ABC 11
