  • Wake Forest Police officers will host a canned food drive at Texas Roadhouse on Sunday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.—donations of non-perishable items like canned meats, fruits, vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, and cereal will benefit the Northern Community Food Security Team focused on reducing local food insecurity.  City of Wake Forest

CRIME NEWS

  • A Wake County home on Forestville Road was evacuated Tuesday, June 3rd after a resident discovered a large military ordnance during yard work following rain, and law enforcement with New Hope firefighters secured the scene—Raleigh Police Bomb Squad awaited a specialized military unit to disarm the device.  ABC 11
  • The Wake Forest Police Department and NCDMV warned residents Tuesday, June 3 about fraudulent texts that falsely claimed to be from the DMV and requested fee payments—officials stressed that the DMV never sends texts and advised deleting and reporting any such messages.  City of Wake Forest

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wake County School District announced Tuesday that it was considering raising breakfast and lunch prices due to budget shortfalls and rising supply costs—this would be the fourth increase for families. The district served over 50,000 meals daily and nearly 36% of its students received free or reduced lunch.  ABC 11

  • The Town of Wake Forest will join dozens of government employers at the Local Government Career Expo on Saturday, June 7 from 1-4 p.m. at the UNC Friday Center in Chapel Hill—job seekers can explore local government career paths with experts and HR professionals.  City of Wake Forest

SPORTS NEWS

  • Brown Ballers FC is the first South Asian 7-on-7 team at TST and is competing at WakeMed Soccer Park with players from India and Pakistan who flew in from Louisiana and London to vie for a share of $1 million in prizes—showing that brown athletes can break barriers at a major tournament.  ABC 11
  • North Carolina is hosting a super regional game with Arizona on Friday at noon while Duke will host Murray State on Saturday at 1 p.m.—both series are set as double elimination to decide who moves on to Omaha and the College World Series.  ABC 11
