GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State officials are urging drivers and passengers to buckl up as the Click It or Ticket campaign runs through May 31 to protect travelers during Memorial Day weekend. Increased patrols and education efforts aim to reduce injuries (the campaign was the first of its kind modeled nationwide). ABC 11
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health experts reported a national surge in tick bites and warn Wake Forest residents that outdoor activities could lead to Lyme disease exposure. UNC and NC State specialists advise hikers and campers to use permethrin-treated clothing and check for symptoms if bitten (fever, headaches or body aches). ABC 11
- ➤ Gov. Josh Stein declared this week ‘Heat Safety Week’ to urge residents to take steps against rising temperatures and heat-related illness, advising pet owners to keep animals cool and hydrated (state officials reported over 5,700 heat-related emergency visits last year). ABC 11
