A TikTok video from May 11 showed caregiver Dezarae Stone gifting white roses to her 90-year-old patient Ms. Kathy at a senior living facility ahead of Mother's Day; the video went viral online.

Stone, who has cared for Ms. Kathy for eight months—describing their close bond as like family—said the gesture inspires her future plans in geriatric care.

A Wake County deputy was injured in a car crash on I-40 eastbound early Sunday, May 11 when he chased a speeding driver who refused to pull over—he was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Wake Forest Town Manager Kip Padgett proposed a 2026 budget on May 6 that will increase spending to nearly $139 million to fund services and add 18 new positions—this plan funds a new fire station on Wait Avenue and shifts five full-time jobs from the Northern Wake Senior Center.

The proposal maintains the tax rate at 42 cents per $100 valuation and will be discussed at a public hearing on May 20, a board work session on June 3, and a final vote on June 17.
