COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Wake Forest Police and Target are partnering to offer free car seat check & installation on May 8 from 1-3 p.m. at the Target on 12000 Retail Dr, where certified technicians will help parents install seats correctly and answer safety questions. City of Wake Forest
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wake County manager presented the 2026 fiscal budget proposal Monday amid uncertainty over federal funding— the plan adds funding for 10 ambulances, 16 sheriff's deputies and 7 child welfare workers, with public hearings on May 19 and 20 and a final vote set for June 2. ABC 11
- ➤ Wake County Manager David Ellis presented his recommended $2.1 billion fiscal year 2026 budget to the county commissioners today, funding public safety, education, and infrastructure — including a library bond and fire station upgrades — with measures involving modest tax increases. Public hearings will be held May 19 and May 20 while online comments remain open until May 21, and the board will vote on the proposal on June 2. The Wake Weekly
- ➤ Raleigh Water crews will repair a sewer gravity main at 510 South Main Street starting at 6:30 p.m. May 8 and finishing by 5 a.m. May 9. Traffic on South Main Street will be adjusted to help the repair—door hangers have been posted if water or sewer services are interrupted. The Wake Weekly
- ➤ Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space is starting a master planning process to shape the future of local parks, preserves and open spaces by asking residents for input. The plan will build on earlier work (including the 2008 effort) and will review current facilities and services (to identify key opportunities for future improvement). The Wake Weekly
- ➤ The Town of Wake Forest will temporarily close a portion of the Dunn Creek Greenway near Heritage Greens Drive from May 7 to May 9 so crews can grade the shoulders to improve drainage — the greenway will reopen on May 10. City of Wake Forest
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A new report by the National Association of Realtors shows that even though North Carolina issues more housing permits than its population share, many residents still struggle to find affordable homes as delays in permits and rising import costs may push new home prices up by as much as $9,200—issues that could slow growth and in-migration if not addressed. Builders and lawmakers plan to take quick steps to help meet the demand for affordable housing. The Wake Weekly

- ➤ Today, the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is accepting registrations for Church Co-Rec Adult Softball throughout May, charging each team $550 and allowing individuals 18 or older to sign up as free agents.
