COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wake Forest Community Library will host the Magnolia Klezmer Band Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. where the performance includes klezmer music and a taste of Jewish cuisine for Jewish American Heritage Month, and the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will host a free online Esports gaming tournament on May 17 with registration open until May 14. The town will also offer free Historic Preservation Month walking tours on May 6, 13, and 16 in various historic areas — one tour is already full while the others highlight local neighborhoods.  The Wake Weekly
  • Over the weekend, six siblings who grew up in Florida gathered in Wake Forest for a family reunion that brought together 24 relatives from Massachusetts, Florida, Texas and North Carolina— the event reinforced close bonds and showcased the local attractions available in the area.  The Wake Weekly
  • The Town of Wake Forest will host a free Bicycle Safety Fair on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Town Hall’s Brooks Street parking lot at 301 S. Brooks St.—the event will teach safe biking skills to children ages five to 14 and their parents while offering bike inspections and free accessories.  City of Wake Forest

  • The 43rd annual Meet in the Street will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Wake Forest—featuring over 100 artisan booths along with music, crafts and food presented by Allison Caudle with Southern Lux Living and coordinated by the Wake Forest Area Chamber.  The Wake Weekly

  • Paul Tine has been named the new NC DMV commissioner and will start on May 6, facing long wait times, staffing shortages, and system issues at DMV offices. His appointment comes as customers prepare for the Real ID deadline on May 7 & the agency plans urgent improvements.  ABC 11

  • A GoFundMe is set up to help Sgt. Kevin Murray’s wife, Danielle, who was diagnosed with breast cancer and faces high medical bills. The Wake Forest Police Department will host a Benefit Bar-B-Que on May 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station #1, 420 Elm Ave, selling $15 BBQ plates & accepting cash & check donations to cover her treatment costs.  City of Wake Forest
