  • Renovations at the Taylor Street Park Playground on N. Taylor St have been delayed due to unexpected concrete footers and officials expect the park to reopen early summer. The nearby sprayground will remain closed until the work finishes (cost: $700,000).  City of Wake Forest

CULTURE NEWS

  • Buddhist monks in saffron robes walked through NC, drawing heartfelt responses from local residents at stops like Pittsboro, Jordan Lake and Raleigh. Their 2,300-mile Walk for Peace—emphasizing inner calm and unity—left a quiet mark on communities along the highway.  ABC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Students and educators from 14 counties gathered at the General Assembly yesterday to urge lawmakers to pass House Bill 430, named for Solomon Wynn after his 2023 death, that raises the minimum age for vape product purchases from 18 to 21+ advocates said the measure may curb youth nicotine addiction.  ABC 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources will accept NFL Flag Football applications for girls ages 11 to 18 beginning Friday, May 1; registrants sign up May 1 to 7 while others register May 8 to 31 with a late fee, and practices begin in June with volunteer coaches needed.  City of Wake Forest
  • WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary is set to host The Soccer Tournament from May 27 through June 1; this global 7-on-7 festival will feature separate men’s, women’s, and new mixed competitions with $1 million prizes, drawing 76 teams from 15 countries including North Carolina Courage and other international clubs.  ABC 11
