GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CAMPO will hold public information sessions on U.S. 1 tolling options that may affect corridor upgrades and project costs; community feedback will guide next steps. The sessions will be on April 30 at Abbotts Creek Community Center in Raleigh and on May 5 at Wake Forest Renaissance Centre (both 5 to 7 p.m.).  City of Wake Forest
  • On Thursday, Gov. Josh Stein, Attorney General Jeff Jackson, DPS Secretary Eddie Buffaloe, and HHS Secretary Dev Sangvai met with advocates and law enforcement at the SAFEchild Advocacy Center to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect—highlighting Child Abuse Prevention Month and Children's Advocacy Center Day on April 28. Stein signed proclamations and proposed a budget to boost the Positive Parenting Program so that children can grow up safer.  The Wake Weekly
  • Afghan refugees who legally resettled after fleeing Taliban rule received a DHS email on April 17 that told them to leave the country within seven days or face deportation—advocates say the short deadline harms families working and studying in the Triangle area.  ABC 11
  • CAMPO and local partners are hosting drop-in public information sessions on US 1 tolling options to guide next steps for easing road congestion in North Wake County—intended to help finalize project plans. One meeting is at Abbotts Creek Community Center on April 30 from 5—7 p.m. and another at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre on May 5 from 5—7 p.m., with community input also accepted online until May 14.  The Wake Weekly
  • Wake County property owners must re-register for a new fraud alert system that goes live Monday (April 21) to notify them if anyone records a document in their name. County officials say the change follows a fraud investigation (where a stranger filed a deed for a $4M Raleigh home) and is part of a complete update to the land record system.  ABC 11

  • The Carolina Hurricanes face the New Jersey Devils in a seven-game series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, hosting the first two games at the Lenovo Center. Game two is scheduled for April 22 at 6 p.m.—tickets remain available for fans.  ABC 11
