- ➤ On Monday, the 59th Memorial Flag raising Ceremony honored Marine Corps veteran Bobby Gene Kemple at the plaza outside Town Hall. His son, Chris recalled his father for his lifelong service to others — and family members placed a wreath while a Marine Corps flag was raised in his memory. The Wake Weekly

- ➤ Wake Forest Historical Museum is hosting a traveling exhibit titled Horace Kephart and The Great Smoky Mountains that runs through June 24 and a local exhibit on Dr. Calvin Jones’ ties to western North Carolina. The museum will host free events on (June 12 at 6 p.m. and June 17 at 6:30 p.m.) and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday at (414 N. Main St.) The Wake Weekly

- ➤ Moms and Students Demand Action held a rally in Raleigh on April 16th to protest two bills, HB 5 and SB 50, that would let 18-year-olds carry handguns without a permit. Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead joined the protest and later met with lawmakers at the Capitol. ABC 11
- ➤ CAMPO partnered with the N.C. Turnpike Authority to study four tolling plans for the U.S. 1/Capital Boulevard North Corridor that has faced repeated delays and rising costs — public sessions in Raleigh and Wake Forest and an online survey open until May 14 will let local residents share their views to shape the project's future.
