  • Donate Life NC is honored as the March Triangle NC Cares Award winner and leads a statewide effort to promote eye, organ and tissue donation. The group unites every transplant center and donor organization to help all residents register and save lives.  ABC 11

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local lawn care companies in Wake Forest are facing challenges from a severe drought and rising fuel costs this spring. Owners said they are shortening service routes (to save fuel) and advising homeowners to water lawns only a few times weekly as temperatures rise.  ABC 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright visited central NC on Thursday to stress the need for a skilled workforce as he toured training labs and met workers; he joined Hitachi Energy, which announced a new $10 million facility (32,000 sqft) in Cary that will create 150 jobs.  ABC 11
  • Wake County enacted a local burn ban yesterday that prohibits outdoor burning near occupied homes amid elevated wildfire risk; officials urged residents to properly extinguish cigarettes and avoid activities like campfires until conditions improve.  ABC 11
