- ➤ A new report released Wednesday by the state education department showed school discipline improved as violent crimes fell 8.2 percent and short-term suspensions dropped 10.6 percent (44 percent of schools reported zero incidents) while dropouts declined 1.2 percent with 62 percent of reported crimes involving controlled substance possession. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) advises residents to update their measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines amid rising measles cases and has launched text alerts for potential exposures. Unvaccinated persons aged 1 or older should get the vaccine to help curb outbreaks. ABC 11

- ➤ Seahawks wide receiver Dareke Young, a Raleigh native and Middle Creek High School graduate, is set to play in the Super Bowl while his mother recalls his journey from a Division II college to NFL plays.
