EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wake County Public Schools have closed all schools today for remote instruction + Durham Public Schools announced a no-class day amid lingering winter weather. The split decision follows a week of mixed schedules in the Triangle.  ABC 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wake Forest officials urge residents today to reduce energy use during peak hours from 6-8 a.m. to help ease high power demand brought on by colder weather — they suggest lowering heat, covering drafty windows and reducing appliance use.  City of Wake Forest

SPORTS NEWS

  • UNC beat Syracuse 87-77 on Monday night after building a 32-point lead — Caleb Wilson scored 22 points with nine rebounds, and the Tar Heels now head into Saturday’s game with Duke in Chapel Hill.  ABC 11
  • Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is hosting Adult Co-Rec Kickball with registrations open through February; entry is $325 per team. Teams aged 18 and older can sign up as a team or free agent as play begins early March and continues weekly through late May — spots may fill fast.  City of Wake Forest
  • The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is accepting registrations for Adult Spring Softball through February. Teams will pay a $550 fee and can register online or at Joyner Park Community Center, with league games scheduled from mid-March through late May on Monday, Wednesday, and possibly Thursday nights.  City of Wake Forest
  • Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department accepts online and in-person registrations for youth baseball, softball and T-ball for ages 5-17, ending Feb. 7 for locals and Feb. 28 for others. Fees are $60 for locals, $100 for non-locals, with sign-ups at Joyner Park Community Center (701 Harris Road).  City of Wake Forest
